7de laan’s first transgender actress - deonay balie is an inspiration

21 April 2017
What a time to be alive. Sure, the world (and country!) we live in has plenty of flaws and we have a lot of progress to make, but there are times when you have to applaud organisations, media and platforms that are doing their best to be progressive and inclusive. As people who work in the entertainment industry, we love seeing this in our favourite music/radio platforms as well as TV shows.

So you can imagine our delight when we read about Deonay Balie, who has just joined local soapie, "7de Laan" as the show's first ever transgender actress.

She has been praised from all corners of the country for opening up doors for many young people in South Africa.

It's even more endearing that she comes across as a small-town girl with bags of talent and a big city dream. We are so glad to see it come true.

The 27-year-old made her debut as Genevieve earlier this week and will be a mainstay over the coming episodes.
